The Simon King Cabin Nester provides a much-needed nesting and roosting space for garden birds. Many of our smaller wild bird species, such as robins, wrens and flycatchers, prefer an open style nesting site with easy access. But one that’s also concealed from the prying eyes of predators like magpies. This design features both an open entrance door, with a secluded nest space tucked behind the side wall. In addition to nesting, small garden birds may use the cabin as a shelter from harsh weather. In finding cover they are able to save essential body fat which aids their survival. A metal frame gives the cabin strength and the roof has a cosy, waterproof liner. The rattan landing platform and low wall provides the divide between entrance and roosting or nesting space.
Simon King says, “I would position your Cabin Nester between half a metre and three metres high for most species, unless it is for spotted flycatchers which will need it a little higher still. You can position it in a shrub, a bush, up against a fence or an ivy-clad wall.” The Nester comes with loop of wire to allow you to fix it into position.
