The kibbled (coarsely ground) peanuts are rich in essential oils and proteins, and, being small in size, can be safely offered to birds all year round. (Whole peanuts offered may, very occasionally, be taken by inexperienced blue and great tits during the nesting season and offered to very young chicks in the nest, creating a choking hazard).
Kibbled Peanuts are loved by a wide range of species, including:
Great-spotted Woodpecker, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Marsh Tit, Long-tailed tit, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Brambling, Robin, Blackbird, Dunnock, House Sparrow, Nuthatch, Collared Dove.
This is the same seed as found with sunflower hearts, only the shell is still intact. Shell-on sunflower seeds are very popular with a wide range of species that have the capacity to penetrate and discard the shell. They have the added advantage of staying fresher for longer than sunflower hearts, and furthermore they aide the flow of other foods within a seed feeder mix, since they do not easily become damp or sticky.
Species that love this food include :
Blue Tit, Great Tit, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Brambling, House Sparrow, Nuthatch, Great-spotted Woodpecker
Hemp is a sort of wild bird ‘super-food”! It’s rich in oil and protein but it also contains the highest levels of fatty acids of any seed type, all in a perfectly balanced package which include beneficial minerals and trace elements for your garden birds’ health.
Because of its remarkable qualities it is included in the seed mix in modest amounts – too much and your garden birds will gain weight too quickly!
Hemp is loved by a wide range of bird species, but is particularly targeted and enjoyed by:
Bullfinch, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Redpoll, Siskin, Tree Sparrow, House Sparrow, Tree Sparrow, Blue Tit, Collared Dove, Nuthatch.
This small seed packs a nutritional punch way above its weight. It is a particular favourite of Tree Sparrows and, if you are lucky enough to have tree sparrows in your neighbourhood, they will flock to feast on red millet. And they are not alone. Other species that will enjoy this food include:
Bullfinch, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Redpoll, Siskin, Tree Sparrow, House Sparrow, Reed Bunting, Blue Tit, Collared Dove, Nuthatch.
