In partnership with The Unpackaged Travel Company (ATOL 6195), I run a select number of wildlife holidays each year. These are based in some of the most spectacular locations around the globe, and draw on my experiences in the field.

2018 Adventures

with Simon King

10th March – 17th March 2018

Early in Spring 2018 join me, Simon King, on Islay, the Jewel of the Hebridean Islands. This exclusive trip is timed to make the most of the astonishingly rich variety of life found here and on the neighbouring isles at this time of year.

Based in the luxurious Islay House Hotel, we will head out in search of the vast flocks of geese which make this their winter home. These same flocks are targeted from time to time by the largest avian predators in the nation – the white tailed and golden eagles, whose attacks lift the flocks into noisy, shimmering clouds.

We shall also watch for brown hares (Islay hosts one of the highest populations of hares in Scotland) which at this time are feeling the spring season stirring their blood, and admire the acrobatic beauty of displaying lapwing and other wading birds. We will also explore the coastline in search of the beautiful and elusive otters and go to the finest locations for unforgettable encounters with both golden and white tailed eagles. Red deer, roe deer, grey and common seals, chough, divers and a grand cast of other highland wildlife, all accompanied by fine dining and a warm, convivial atmosphere at our elegant lodgings, makes this an island adventure not to be missed.
